Halloween is tomorrow 🙂 Me and my husband have very different views on this holiday and the way it should be celebrated. If it was up to me I would decorate my whole apartment in a spooky theme and set scary traps. My siblings know I have somewhat of an obsession with witches and magic. We have had some memorable years in the past scaring each other half to death. Like me, if you are late getting to the store this year, your choice of decorations might be scarce. This year we settled on a few things from the 99 cent store to help make things easier on our pockets. We loved the results so I had to share. You can find a TON of other ideas on Pinterest.
You will need:
- Spider webbing
- Red food coloring
- Clear tape
- Eyeball Ice cubes
Spread the spiderweb out in the shape and form you want for your door. Stick the tape on the edges and place on the corners of the door. Additional tip: To make fake blood, use red food coloring. If you have a spray bottle handy, fill it with water and add red food coloring. Spray the mixture on the decorations and let air dry.
At the dollar store, my son also picked out a tray of fake eyeballs to freeze and put in our drinks. They were priced at $1 and the idea seemed cool so I bought them. I had no intention on actually using these eyeballs as real ice cubes, but I knew they would come in handy. Since they glowed in the dark we figured it would be great to place them on the ceiling like you would glow in the dark stars stickers. From the door decorations, we had left over spiderweb, so that went on top for added effect. I’m sure if I had another bag of that spider webbing I could go more extreme with the decorations. But my son loves how it turned out so I’m happy.
Another idea I got from Pinterest was to make a Halloween Survival Kit. I have seen variations of this idea over the years. I like to be prepared for anything that can happen so this year we decided to make one. This survival kit is more for first aid than anything else. Your child can also keep these items in a zip lock bag at the bottom of their trick or treat bag.
Our survival kit contains:
- Bandages
- Hand Sanitizer
- Small Flashlight – make sure you check the batteries first
- Water bottle
- Plastic Bag for loose candy
For about $5 this was a steal!
